Fall Leaves

Today we read  the book,  Fall Leaves by Loretta Holland.  Students loved the book and we discussed the playful quality of a word's meaning and how it changes when it's used as a noun or a verb.

"SUMMER LEAVES/ FLOWERS LEAVE/ APPLES FALL/  LEAVES FALL/ FALL STAYS/LEAVES LEAVE".

Students have been introduced to a new writing activity- The Perfect Fall Day.  We discussed how good writers are like sponges, using our five senses to absorb information from all around us. We spent some time discussing the many wonderful changes that the fall season brings. This week, we will revisit figurative language and students will use their observations to write about a perfect fall day while incorporating the elements of figurative language.
